HEAL Resources Database

The growing obesity epidemic among adults and children is a multi-faceted challenge. Over the past three years SLHI has become increasingly involved with partners in addressing it. Healthy Eating, Active Living (HEAL) reflects a coalescing of this work in the following set of strategies:

  • Promoting healthy community design.
  • Supporting community-based efforts that promote healthy eating and active living.
  • Improving availability of healthy foods and consumption of fresh fruits and vegetables.
  • Improving the built environment of neighborhoods.

Communities in Arizona have become increasingly engaged in creating the environments that will help their children be healthy. Strategies include improving school lunches, community gardens, farmers markets, and letting kids walk to school safely.

With all these efforts it is sometime hard to know who is doing what, or how to connect with available resources and potential collaborations.

The HEAL Resources database is intended as an ever-expanding inventory of healthy eating and active living activities at the local, national, and state levels. It can be used to identify gaps in programs and policies, opportunities for collaboration and resources for planning new efforts. Information includes the name of the program or project, a brief description, the lead organization, and contact information for you to learn more.

Adding, editing or deleting a project is as simple is filling out our contact form. Along with your input, your suggestions will make the effort better over time. Give us your feedback here.
